1-Color Pyrometers

1-color pyrometers or IR thermometers are used in a wide variety of industrial processes, where there is a clear view without disturbances such as dust or other contamination between the pyrometer and the object to be measured.

Compared to that, 2-color pyrometers can also measure through polluting lenses, dust, or smoke, or when the emissivity of the material is unknown.

Each material is measured in a specific spectral range where the emissivity is as high as possible and homogeneous. Metals are measured in other spectral ranges as non-metals because they have different surface properties. Many available spectral ranges can also be used in a wide variety of areas.

Measurements on Metals

For metal measurements, the shortest possible spectral range is advantageous for an accurate measurement, since the emissivity is higher there and, in addition, a lower measurement error results if the emissivity is set incorrectly. However, for technical reasons the shorter spectral ranges start at slightly higher temperature ranges, so that if necessary a model with a somewhat longer-wave spectral range has to be selected.

Shortwave spectral ranges are also suitable for measuring ceramics, glass, composites, semiconductors, wafers, glass melt, and more.

Narrow-band ranges are used for special materials or applications that have been found to be suitable by material analysis.

All devices measure with high precision and with high optical resolutions, so that it is possible to measure even at larger distances to the measuring object still with small spot sizes. Stationary devices are used for continuous monitoring, hand-held devices for comparison measurements with these or for random checks at various points.
